News from the front lines on campus

Getting ready for our triennial staff conference in St. Louis, January 5-9 (2011), we were blessed by a great report on one of our campus ministries in Chicago from CBN News.

We also did an interview with Harold Hendrick for KSIV radio in St. Louis that will be running in the next few days.

InterVarsity at Cape Town

The historic Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization is going on this week in Cape Town, South Africa. InterVarsity president Alec Hill and a number of our other ministry leaders are participating, as well as a number of former InterVarsity staff, plus many colleagues from other member movements of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students.

An article on our website gives some background on InterVarsity’s connections to the Lausanne movement, as well as links to InterVarsity’s Lausanne blog (currently under installation).

Repurposing Press Relations & the Twitterfeed

Urbana 09 was quite possibly the best Urbana yet. Like previous Urbanas, its impact will ripple on through history in the lives that are touched and changed for all eternity.

Now that most of InterVarsity is moving ahead into an exciting 2010 of campus ministry, this particular weblog will now reflect the activities of InterVarsity’s campus ministry, not just its Urbana ministry.

Thanks for dropping by.

Perspectives

Urbana 09 is now just four days away. The set-up is already beginning at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Here at InterVarsity’s National Service Center in Madison WI we’re noticing the increasing Urbana-related internet and news media traffic.

The Christian Reformed Church has some background on its official website on one of the Urbana 09 plenary speakers, Ruth Padilla DeBorst.

Once again Mission Network News will be on location at Urbana 09. MNN has been doing some excellent pre-Urbana reports. For instance, today’s report reveals that HCJB missionaries who will be exhibiting at Urbana’s Global Connexions Exhibit Hall will be conducting SKYPE calls to missionaries on the field during Urbana 09.

Boxes

The halls of InterVarsity’s National Service Center are filling up with boxes containing all sorts of things needed for Urbana 09. They will be on their way to St. Louis shortly. A question has been asked about the Urbana schedule: what time are sessions being held, etc.

Morning general sessions are at 10:45, evening sessions are at 7:30 (7pm the first night, Sunday). Afternoon seminars go from 2-5:30 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

We are scheduling news conferences each afternoon at 3pm, beginning on Sunday.
